EASYCAP VIDEO CAPTURE SOFTWARE DRIVER
When your device is sold with compatible with Windows x and it is lower version then the one you use, most likely you can't find driver for your device for the modern Windows.
EASYCAP VIDEO CAPTURE SOFTWARE INSTALL
The ones you could use on an XP computer can't be used, because Windows 7 or 8 won't let you install them. Be aware all drivers you can install in windows 7 or 8, you can get them from Microsoft. I saw some dodgy sites trying to offer drivers. Long story, but unless you can write your driver yourself, or you can find an universal device driver (not sure something like that exists) you won't be able to use the device. So no manufacturer will ask for certification of drivers for hardware they no longer sell. For a certificate the manufactures must use Microsoft protocols, ask Microsoft for certification, and pay for the tests Microsoft does, to check the software is working correct. Microsoft needed to make Windows more secure, so only allows drivers in there modern operating systems when they have a Microsoft certificate. The drivers, made for older windows versions, won't work on a Windows 7 or Windows 8. The i.LINK port on the Computer is a D shaped port which is labelled as i, DV, IEEE1394 and Firewire. The i.LINK cable used to connect the Camcorder to the computer depends on the number of pins available on the i.LINK/FIREWIRE port on the Computer. The i.LINK cable gives a better video transfer qulaity than the USB transfer.

You may also try installing the driver update for the Camcorder. There is an update for driver on the Sony website to transfer the videos from the Camcorder to the Computer using the USB cable. You may wish to purchase a i.LINK/Firewire cable to connect the Camcorder to the Computer in order to transfer the videos from the Camcorder to the Computer. The Camcorder uses the USB Streaming function to transfer the videos to the Computer. The videos from the tape camcorders cannot be transferred to Windows Vista Operating System as there is no USB Streaming ooption available on the Windows Vista Operating System. If you're using a Windows Vista Operating System it'snot possible to transfer the videos from the Camcorder to the Computer using the USB connection.
EASYCAP VIDEO CAPTURE SOFTWARE MANUAL
JVC denies responsibility, even though their manual is clearly wrong, and they know it. What burns me is that I looked at the manual in the store and only purchased the camera because it claimed that the enclosed USB cable would work for moving images. Don't skimp on these items, get a well shielded cable and a name brand adapter. However, If your PC has no FIREWIRE input jack you must also purchase a FIREWIRE adapter card.
They told me that the MANUAL WAS WRONG.and that in order to transfer MOVING images, I needed to purchase a FIREWIRE cable. On page 45, top right hand column of either manual (the original and the on-line one on this site) the claim is made that "Using USB cable it is possible to do the following things: Transfer still/MOVING images recorded on a tape to a PC." After many unsuccessful attempts at trying to use the USB cable for transferring moving images to my PC, I called JVC technical dept. I bought my JVC GR-270 (same as GR-290, but no remote) in 2004. Now that I got it to work, I’ll probably never use it again.SOURCE: Cannot transfer video to Laptop computer through USB I can now watch and record TV on my computer. The video option can stay on default or choose the same. So I went back to the Capture Device screen and in the Audio device name, I clicked on the option to use the SMI Grabber Device. Then I clicked on Play and sure enough, I got the video feed from my cable box.
As for the Video device name and Audio device name I left them at default. I did find someone online who suggested using DirectShow instead of TV – digital as the Capture mode. An online search didn’t provide much useful information. I had no idea what the frequencies should be. I discovered that the Delivery system in the Americas should be ATSC. I only have one Tuner card– I tried 0, 1, 2, etc. Then I got another list of options like Tuner card, Delivery system, Transponder/multiplex frequency, and so on. Then in the Capture Device window, in the Capture mode area, I originally picked TV – digital from the drop-down list.
